Virtual Reality Design (B.A.)

The B.A. in Virtual Reality Design will prepare students for careers producing high-quality content for emerging immersive technologies. Students will learn how to design, develop and evaluate interactive, immersive experiences, focusing especially on storytelling, asset creation and user interface/user experience (UI/UX) design. This degree track will also allow students to explore 360 video production, screen writing and unique aspects of immersive production design.  In addition to the required concentration courses, both B.A. and B.S. students jointly complete two lab courses, elective courses and a two-semester capstone sequence in which they work together on advanced projects of their own design or for clients in industry.

Foundation Courses


Foundation courses provide students with fundamental ways of thinking about virtual reality design. All foundation courses are required.

Total credits: 18


Lab courses


The lab course, taken twice in a fall/spring sequence, acquaints students with important virtual reality tools, technologies, hardware and software. The lab must be taken twice.

Total credits: 6


Skill Courses


Skill courses help students develop their knowledge of important VR design skills. All four ARVR prefixed skill courses are required. Students may choose to take either CSC 121 or WR 250 to complete the fifth required skill course.

Advanced Elective Courses


Advanced electives let students explore specialized topics within the AR/VR discipline. Students must take 12 credits of advanced electives.

Courses may be chosen from the following list or from the Virtual Reality Design B.S. program. Students may also apply other courses to this requirement with advisor permission.

Capstone Project


Capstone courses let students apply their knowledge to team-based, semester-scale AR/VR design and development projects. Both capstone courses are required.
