HIST 306 Slavery & Freedom



This course investigates the complexities of life for enslaved people  from the arrival of the first enslaved humans in Jamestown in 1619 through slavery’s Constitutional death, the role enslaved people and free Blacks played in aiding in slavery’s annihilation, the manner in which formerly enslaved people sustained the legacy of emancipation and how the legacies of American slavery persist in the present.
