The Professional Studies Certificate program for Special Education Secondary 6-12
is designed to serve candidates who hold an earned baccalaureate degree from a
regionally accredited college or university and hold a license issued by the Virginia
Board of Education with an endorsement in secondary education English, History
and Social Sciences, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, or Physics to
obtain add-on Virginia Teacher Licensure in special education. This includes the use
of the newest instructional techniques, experiential learning and exposure to
information related to classroom management, and instructional strategies for
delivery to a secondary 6-12 school population. This certificate includes the use of

requirements for this program will meet the Virginia Department of Education
(VDOE) “Licensure Regulations for School Personnel”.
