Health and Physical Education (PreK-12) Professional Studies Certificate

The Professional Studies Certificate Program (PSC) for Health and Physical Education serves students who want to obtain Virginia Teacher Licensure. This PSC Program is intended to meet the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) requirements for licensure in the health and physical education PreK-12 endorsement area. Each endorsement area has requisite courses listed in the Licensure Regulations for School Personnel book published by the Office of Professional Licensure, Division of Compliance Coordination, Virginia Department of Education, Richmond, VA. Recent changes made by the VDOE may not be reflected in this catalog.

Program entry requires satisfactory Praxis Core, SAT or ACT scores, and completion of an undergraduate degree at a regionally accredited college or university. Passing Praxis Core Math and VCLA scores may be taken in lieu of Praxis Core. Applicants must also submit three letters of recommendation and a writing sample.

Program entry requires meeting the undergraduate Kinesiology Health and Physical Education PreK-12 content courses, as well as the following course:

  • KNS 481 Adapted Physical Education 3 credits

PSC Program Completion

Prior to student teaching, and as a condition of licensure, the following tests are currently required to be passed:

  • VCLA and Praxis II Health and Physical Education
