The Master of Arts in Music Therapy and Professional Counseling is an interdisciplinary degree that prepares students to practice as music therapists (MT-BC) and licensed professional counselors (LPC). Coursework sequentially integrates theoretical and clinical competencies to meet the needs of clients in a broad range of settings. An emphasis is placed on reflexive, ethical practice, drawing on a range of theoretical perspectives that develop integral thinking.

Students are required to complete state and federal background checks, and will be required to adhere to immunization and vaccination policies of Shenandoah’s School of Health Professions and individual practicum and internship sites. Students may also be required to complete drug screens for clinical training sites. 

Total: 48 credits


Professional Counseling Course and Credit Requirements


Students complete 33 credits of clinical mental health counseling coursework in the third and fourth year of the program to fulfill the 42 credit total academic requirements for practice as a Licensed Professional Counselor. The additional 9 credits of these requirements are completed in the first two years of the program (COUN 501, 505 and 601).
