Special Education Secondary 6-12 (Professional Studies Certificate)

The Professional Studies Certificate for Special Education K-6 Teacher Education serves students who desire Virginia Special Education Teacher Licensure. Students completing this program will meet the Virginia Department of Education requirements for licensure  and be eligible for a K-6 endorsement in special education — general curriculum instruction. This endorsement area has requisite courses listed in the Licensure Regulations for School Personnel book published by the Office of Professional Licensure, Division of Compliance Coordination, Virginia Department of Education, Richmond, VA.

Program entry requires completion of an undergraduate degree in education from a regionally accredited college or university. Applicants must also submit two letters of recommendation and a writing sample.

Prior to student teaching, and as a condition of licensure, the following test is currently required: Praxis II: Reading.
