This graduate certificate program will provide an understanding of human anatomy and physiology at a level required for clinical medicine. Graduates of the program will be able to relate basic science knowledge to clinical scenarios and will be prepared to develop instructional and assessment plans utilizing best practices and appropriate pedagogy for learners at the secondary and post-secondary levels. The Graduate Certificate in Anatomy & Physiology may be used as a foundation for further education in the health professions, for further graduate study and/or research in the discipline, or for educators at the secondary or post-secondary level who require graduate-level credits to teach Anatomy & Physiology.

The Division of Anatomy & Physiology Mission

The mission of Shenandoah University’s Division of Anatomy and Physiology is to educate individuals in the disciplines of anatomy and physiology to prepare for application to clinical practice, research, and/or education. Our goal is to improve the health of humans in our society by advancing the dissemination of biomedical knowledge through innovative educational programs.

Admissions Requirements

All applicants seeking enrollment in the Certificate in Anatomy & Physiology program must:
1. Complete a graduate application for admission.
2. Provide official transcripts from all institutions of higher education previously attended.
3. Earn a bachelor’s degree prior to enrollment.
4. Provide two letters of recommendation.
5. Prior to enrollment, complete 4 full semester courses (12-16 credits) in Biology, Chemistry, and/or Physics. A General Biology sequence (8 credits) and/or General Chemistry sequence (8 credits) is preferred.

Degree Requirements

The requirement for this graduate certificate is the successful completion of the 18 credit hours of curricular content with a grade point average of 2.8 or better. Students who wish to complete the Master of Science in Education with Individualized Focus degree may apply these 18 credits to that program, then complete a remainder of 4 courses (12 credits) for the master’s degree. Admission to the M.S.Ed. program requires a separate application.
