The Master of Music in Performance curriculum is designed to develop skills in performance and interpretation, supported by a knowledge base in historical and analytical areas.

Program Outcomes

Students completing the Master of Music in Performance degree will be able to:

  • demonstrate musicianship in solo performance;
  • perform a variety of repertoire;
  • perform in a variety of settings;
  • demonstrate knowledge of music theory and music history; and
  • demonstrate the ability to research and write.

Degree Requirements

The degree requirement is 30 to 31 credit hours and an overall grade point average of 3.0.  Students must have two successful completions of MUPP 640 Master’s Performance Recital (two credits each).

All Applied Majors


Vocal Major Requirements:


Total: 9 credits


Note:


Students must have had two semesters of language (French, German, Italian or Spanish). The two semesters need to have been two different languages. Deficiencies in this area will be identified in the initial transcript analysis by the Conservatory Office.

Keyboard Major Requirements:


  • Conservatory Electives Credit(s): 8                 

Conservatory electives do not include additional AP** or AE** lessons in the student’s major applied area of study. Keyboard majors may include up to six credits of ensemble.  

Total: 8 credits

Instrumental Major Requirements:


  • Ensemble Credit(s): 6

Instrumental majors in band or orchestral instruments must register for three semesters of performance in large ensembles.

  • Conservatory Electives Credit(s): 2                 

Conservatory electives do not include additional AP** or AE** lessons in the student’s major applied area of study. 

Total: 8 credits

Woodwind Doubling Requirements:


  • Ensemble Credit(s): 6

Instrumental majors in band or orchestral instruments must register for three semesters of performance in large ensembles.

  • Conservatory Electives Credit(s): 2                 

Conservatory electives do not include additional AP** or AE** lessons in the student’s major applied area of study.
