Pedagogy - Voice (M.M.)

The Master of Music in Pedagogy - Voice curriculum prepares post-baccalaureate students for meaningful and satisfying careers as private voice teachers. The curriculum encompasses contemporary and classical functional training for the singing voice. Interdisciplinary courses targeting pedagogy, anatomy, technology, career skills and applied voice lessons provide the education required to succeed professionally as a voice pedagogue.

Program Outcomes

Students completing the Master of Music in Pedagogy degree will be able to:

  • utilize voice science and related pedagogical concepts in the teaching of voice and
  • perform collaboratively at an advanced level of study commensurate with the

    master degree

Admission to the Master of Music in Pedagogy with a Keyboard or Instrumental focus has been temporarily suspended. The program has not been terminated but no applications are being accepted at this time.

Degree Requirements

The Classical Voice degree requirement is 33 credit hours and an overall grade point average of 3.0.  The Contemporary Commercial Music degree requirement is 34 credit hours and an overall grade point average of 3.0.

  • Music elective Credit(s): 1

Total Classical Majors: 33 credits


Total CCM Majors: 34 credits


*Minimum grade of “C” required.

A minimum of three semesters of language study at the undergraduate level is required for all entering master’s students in Classical Voice Pedagogy. Students must have two semesters in one of the following languages: French, German, Italian, or Spanish; with one additional semester in a second language from the above list. Deficiencies in this area will be identified in the initial transcript analysis by the Conservatory Office.
