The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre curriculum is designed for the talented performer who wishes to prepare for a professional career in musical theatre. The curriculum provides a balance of theatre, music and dance study with practical applications.
Students completing the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre will be able to:
- design, develop and complete collaborative projects appropriate to their discipline and career goals
- analyze dramatic literature, its performance and its production in cultural and historical context;
- act with imagination, a sense of truth, full emotional range and crafted specificity;
- sing vocal repertoire from varying styles and genres with stylistically appropriate technique;
- dance with proficient technical skills and artistry in a variety of styles appropriate to musical theatre; and
- integrate business knowledge and skills required to meet the demands of the current musical theatre industry.

Total with Jazz/Tap Electives (Dance A): 16 credits
Total with DAPE 220 (Dance B): 16.5 credits
Total with Ballet/Tap Electives (Dance A): 16 credits
Total with Ballet/Jazz Electives (Dance B): 16.5 credits
Total with Ballet/Jazz Electives (Dance A): 16 credits
Total with Ballet/Tap Electives (Dance B): 15.5 credits
Total with DAPE 333/Jazz Elective (Dance A): 15 credits
Total with DAPE 333/Tap Elective (Dance B): 14.5 credits
Degree Total: 126.5 credits
*Minimum grade of “C” required. ^Basic Musicianship Proficiency Exam offered.
#Students in the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre curriculum are required to audition for all productions (opera is not mandatory) and must accept the role(s) in which they are cast. A minimum of two successful completions are required. Dance RequirementsMusical Theatre majors are required to register and participate in a dance technique course (DA or DAPE) every semester of full-time enrollment. |
