THDP 335 Lighting in Context
This course explores how lighting design works across different creative worlds: theatre, opera, dance, film, television and photography. Students will examine how light shapes story and mood and creates visual style in each setting. Through hands-on projects and discussion, students will analyze examples from each medium, apply design principles in these theatrical and non-theatrical situations and begin the process of creating original lighting ideas. The course encourages students to evaluate their design choices and to communicate their ideas clearly while developing a flexible design process that adapts to different production environments within the entertanment industry.
