POLICY 4.17.10 - Overload Overload is to be avoided if possible. When overload occurs, it should be agreed to in writing by the dean/director and faculty member. Faculty have the right of refusal of an overload request without negative repercussions. If a faculty member agrees to a teaching overload assignment for an academic year, any adjustment to other aspects of their job responsibilities should be discussed with and documented by the Dean/ Director.
Any overload payments are to be approved in advance by the provost based on the recommendation of the dean. Normally, payment will be made only in the spring (or summer) for overload for the year. The rate of overload payment is the same as for a part-time faculty member of the same discipline and rank.
Deans/directors and administrative staff will not normally be eligible for overload compensation.
Revision Dates: Approved by President after Faculty Senate and Academic Cabinet review, Nov. 2023
