POLICY 4.6.3.8.4 - Benefits Provided Benefits provided for faculty members who teach less than the equivalent of eight equated hours per semester, or less than 16 equated hours per academic year:
Benefits provided for faculty members who teach the equivalent of eight or more equated hours per semester, or 16 equated hours or more per academic year when the following procedures and conditions are met:
Procedures and Conditions:
- benefited positions in the Arts Academy are approved by the provost and president, and advertised internally
- formal application to Arts Academy director, including updated résumé, evidence of involvement beyond teaching, record of teaching levels for previous three years
- recommendation to Conservatory dean by Arts Academy director
- approval by provost and president
- all appointments require annual review prior to renewal of letter of intent
- eligibility for benefits as related to level of instruction in terms of equated hours is determined during the first three years of employment.
- teaching under a fixed sum letter of intent
- when instruction exceeds the amount upon which the fixed sum letter of intent was based, the faculty member will receive compensation for excess instruction at the prevailing salary rate

- option to participate in retirement program after one year waiting period (included in first three years of employment). Institutional contribution of 3 percent when faculty member contributes 0 percent. Institutional contribution of 8 percent when faculty member contributes 5 percent.
