PT 832 Establishing a Physical Therapy Practice/Direct Access

This course will introduce the student to the fundamentals of establishing a physical therapy practice. It will include small business basics, understanding business structures, understanding the reimbursement issues facing PTs in private practice, analyzing a financial plan, developing policies and procedures for the practice and understanding risk management. The necessary philosophy of the expanded role as a diagnostician and the marketing strategies required to promote and advocate for the autonomous model of care will be discussed. The peer reviewed and published clinical competencies that define primary contact physical therapy and how these skills will help to provide health care consumers safe and effective management of neuromusculoskeletal impairments and functional limitations will be presented.
